Native Stone Winery is "our" local winery located about fifteen minutes away in the river bluffs overlooking the Missouri River. I noticed a 'For Sale' sign on the property a couple weeks ago and became worried that we might lose the winery...we lost one across the river about a year ago. Native Stone is a winery but also a microbrewery so I'm interested in it staying around...even though I'm not too fond of their beers.
Jill and I spent an afternoon up in Hartsburg just looking around and on our way back home I decided to see what was going on at the winery. I was happy to learn that they are just selling a house on the property - not the winery.

The winery property includes vinyards and they also have a hiking trail up to Bull Rock on the bluff that overlooks the river. Bull Rock was one of the early river landmarks. Lewis and Clark described it in their journals and named it back in 1804 when this part of Missouri was still wilderness and Osage Indian country. I think the story goes that there was a bull buffalo noted in the area hence the name. Anyway, we were planning on hiking up the trail but it got too hot so we just hung out at the winery.
They have some feral cats that live at the winery and seem tame but won't sit still or allow petting. This one was posing outside the window were we were sitting and enjoying a glass of wine (me) and a root beer float (Jill).
There were three others but this one was ready for her close-up.
